Everything you need to know about Henceforth — how it works, what it touches, and what it doesn't.
How it works
How does Henceforth change my name automatically?
+
Henceforth uses a browser automation agent — think of it as a very focused robot that knows exactly how to navigate each website. It logs into your accounts, goes to the right settings page, fills in your new name, and hits save. All of this happens inside your Chrome browser, on your device, while you watch the live dashboard.
How long does it take?
+
Most accounts are updated in 2–5 minutes each. A full run of 15 services typically takes 20–35 minutes — most of which you're not doing anything, just watching the dashboard. You can close the laptop and come back; progress is saved.
What if a site changes and the automation breaks?
+
Websites change their UI constantly. We monitor all our supported services and fix broken recipes within 48 hours. Essential plan users get 6 months of updates; Complete users get lifetime maintenance. If something fails, the agent flags it clearly so nothing gets silently skipped.
What happens when I hit "start"?
+
The agent decrypts your credentials locally (using your master password, never stored), then works through your selected services one at a time. Each update is logged in the live dashboard. When a service requires manual action — like uploading a marriage certificate — it pauses and tells you exactly what to do.
Privacy & Security
Is it safe to give Henceforth my login credentials?
+
We use a zero-knowledge architecture — technically similar to how 1Password and other password managers work. Your credentials are encrypted with AES-256 using a master password that only you know, stored locally on your device, and deleted after the agent completes. We never store, see, or transmit your passwords.
Does Henceforth store my passwords?
+
No. Credentials are stored only in encrypted form on your local device, never on our servers. After the agent finishes running, you can delete all stored credentials from the extension settings with one click.
Can my accounts get flagged or locked?
+
This is a real consideration with any browser automation. We take steps to make the agent's behavior look human-like — realistic timing, normal navigation patterns — and we avoid services that are particularly aggressive about bot detection. For sensitive or high-value accounts we recommend using guided mode rather than full automation.
Services & coverage
Can it change my name with the SSA, DMV, or passport office?
+
No — and we're intentional about this. Government IDs, Social Security, passports, and driver's licenses all require in-person verification and legal documentation. Automating this would be both technically impossible and irresponsible. We provide a separate checklist for official government changes.
Can it change my name at my bank?
+
No. Banks and credit card companies require a government-issued ID with your updated name before they'll make changes. This has to happen after your SSA and driver's license are updated. We keep financial accounts out of scope intentionally.
Can I request a new service to be added?
+
Yes — and we love it. Email us at hello@henceforth.co with the service name. We prioritize new recipes based on how many people request them. Most new services are added within 2 weeks of being requested.
Pricing & refunds
Why a one-time fee instead of a subscription?
+
Name changes happen once. Charging you a monthly fee for something you needed one time felt wrong — like a wedding photographer who keeps billing you every month. We built a business model that aligns with how you actually use the product.
What's your refund policy?
+
If Henceforth fails to successfully update at least 80% of your selected services, we'll refund you in full. No questions asked, no hoops. We'd rather give you your money back than have an unhappy customer.
